Blessed Sunday

The Lord blessed wonderfully this past Sunday. The worship was outstanding and the presence of the Holy Spirit was powerful. We were priviledged to have Pastor Matt Rose minister the gospel, Pastor Jason Heacox lead in worship and Pastor Tony Ledbetter minister in prayer during our morning worship. Great spiritual leaders together glorifying God.

Disney Trip

Ron, Pamela & Tom Martin had a great time in Florida during their recent trip to Disney World. The weather was beautiful and the atmosphere was extremely relaxing.

Get Under The Spout

I've often heard old-timers use the phrase, "Get Under The Spout Where The Glory Comes Out," as a reference to being in the right place, time and frame-of-mind to receive God's blessings. Isaac was in a similar situation when he faced famine and tribulation. God instructed him to stay where he was, instead of going to Egypt, and allow God to supply his need.

Trouble does one of two things,
1. It makes us more sensitive to God, and more aware of our weakness and dependence upon God.
2. Or It makes us dull and insensitive, and self assertive.

If famine trial and tests bring us a greater revelation of God, then they have served a greater purpose than a life of ease and comfort

Just like the quarter back will not throw the ball until his receiver is in the intended position, neither will God release the blessing until we are in position to receive.

Jumping Through Genesis

Chuck Swindoll wrote,
Because of sin, man has taken
the deity out of religion,
the supernatural out of Christianity
the authority from the Bible
God out of education,
morality and virtue out of literature,
beauty and truth out of art,
ethics out of business,
fidelity out of marriage.
Such is the nature of the world in which Noah lived . . . and the world in which we live.
The world knows little about the Bible, but nearly everyone is familiar with Noah’s ark. There are jokes, cartoons, movies, clothing, jewelry, toys and sculptures depicting this Biblical event. On all continents and among almost all peoples of the world ancient catastrophic flood accounts have been found; anthropologists have collected roughly 275 early flood stories.
In the midst of a decadent society one man stood out . . . a man by the name of Noah. Notice what we read about him.
Noah Found Favor
In the New International Version we read that Noah found favor. In the old King James it is, "Noah found grace." Either way it is important that we don't miss something here. Noah did not EARN God's blessing . . .he was given God's favor. Noah was not a perfect man. We have a tendency to see Noah as someone extra-ordinary. It then becomes easy for us to relegate his obedience and faith to the "that's not reachable for me" status. Truth is, he was a common man who was willing to follow the Lord.
He was a Blameless Man
In that godless society no one had any charges against Noah. We can conclude that he had a good relationship with his friends and neighbors. They may have felt he was weird, or one of those "holy rollers", but they respected him. No one wondered if Noah was dealing honestly with them. They knew his ethics were solid. No one had to question whether Noah was cheating on his wife. They knew Noah's was committed to her. No one questioned Noah's methods. They knew he was not seeking to manipulate them when he acted loving. No one questioned Noah's sincerity. . . they may have questioned his sanity . . .but not his heart.
He Walked with God
Noah "walked with God" He didn't just visit with God. He didn't "stop in to see God" on the Sabbath . . . he walked with Him on a daily and hourly basis. Noah's relationship with God was not a temporary fascination, it was enduring and steady. It was a relationship that was nurtured over hundreds of years. It was steady and constant.

Transformers!

Sunday's message dealt with the topic of Spiritual Transformation. Paul writes in Romans 12: 1 - 3:
I bessech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the revewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Tim LaHaye, in His book, The Battle for the Mind writes, “Humanism assumes that man is innately good and capable of solving his problems independently of any Supreme being. Today’s philosophy of education is obsessed with self-actualization, self-image, self-love, self-sufficiency, self-esteem, self-satisfaction-self, self, self."

We are faced with a choice today. We can either decide to give in to the patterns of self-indulgence, carnality and selfishness or we can chose to prosper by obeying God’s word, allowing it to help us grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Pet 3:18)

Someone recently wrote, "There are some in churches across America who are praying for and anxiously awaiting revival. But revival will not come from hell, fire, and brimstone sermons, it will not come from Sunday to Wednesday services, it won’t come from reading another book on the subject. No, revival will come when the western church stops trying to coddle people to faith and instead begins developing radically transformed disciples who are willing to live and tell their stories of transformation for God’s glory . . . then we’ll have a movement of God."

Picnic at the Parsonage '09

The CCC Annual Picnic at the Parsonage '09 was a huge success. The food, fun and fellowship were tremendous and the day was filled with laughter and excitement. Special thanks to Rita and Derry Meade for the delicious Boston butts sandwhiches. There were plenty of conversations and games such as: horseshoes, volleyball, batmitten, bean bag toss, football. Some enjoyed playing board games like Scrabble and Dominoes. There was even a rousing game of Bingo (don't worry, no money exchanged hands, nor were any proceeds given to help small, struggling churches.) It was a great time of Christian fellowship. We look forward to Picnic at the Parsonage '10!
