Happy Thanksgiving Celebration
Sunday evening brought a special time of community fellowship. Our annual Cottondale Community Thanksgiving Service was held at the Cottondale Community Church. There was an overflow crowd of 340. The presence of God was in every word spoken and every song sung. Pastors and churches who participated were: Ben West, Cottondale Christian; Simon Hunter, Benville Baptist; John Hassell, Cottondale United Methodist; Dale Glover, Cottondale Baptist; Mark Potter, Bible Methodist Church; Ron Martin, Cottondale Community Church.
The congregation was blessed by the music of choirs from Cottondale Baptist and Benville Baptist churches. The Cottondale Community Church youth drama team ministered dynamically and Pastor Mark Potter's Thanksgiving message was outstanding.
A wonderfully prepared fellowship dinner followed the evening service. We thank God for His bountiful supply and awesome presence during our community gathering.

Sour Grapes
"In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."
Great Service!

Food Pantry
The Care Package received a high acknowledgement during its recent audit by the West Alabama Food Bank. The overall leadership, organization, finances and participation of The Care Package is considered to be in the top ten category of food distribution agencies.
We are averaging over $1500 in food purchases and spent over $10,000 for food in 2009. Special thanks goes to everyone who has contributed to this program. We are proud to acknowledge the Cottondale United Methodist Church, Cottondale Christian Church and Cottondale Baptist for their partcipation, also.
This ministry is a testament to God's provision and glory!

The Serpents Bite
In the story of the Children of Israel wandering in the wilderness in the Book of Numbers we find that often these folks were inclined to grumble, fuss, fight and complain. They would get angry and upset and - as is almost always the case under these circumstances – they would began to criticize. Soon the words became heated. The harshness of the comments spoken were only thinly veiled. The angry words spoken were like painful, barbed darts – intended to hurt and wound. The outcome was predictable – there was offense created; harsh angry words were returned; trust and esteem for the other person diminished. People that were supposed to be close – brothers – felt uncomfortable in each other’s company. Fact of the matter is that conflict and disagreement with others is a common thread in the fabric of humanity. Griping and complaining are the symptoms for a much deeper problem. The Israelites were wandering in the desert. Why were they wandering? - Because they refused to trust God’s leading. They had been led right to the border of the Promised Land, but they were afraid to enter. They didn’t believe God would usher them as victors into the land He had led them to. And so they wandered in the desert. And then they began to fuss and fume. Only problem – they picked the wrong person to criticize.
